Conversion Gold 2 - Basic Features

Conversion Gold 2 is an extremely powerful conversion tracking tool. Conversion Gold 2 makes is very easy to track sales, leads, opt-ins, joins and more. By giving you specific information about the people that you are converting into customers or subscribers, you can tweak your efforts and boost your conversions dramatically. Many times, a few small and easy tweaks to your web site is enough to double or triple your earnings.

But you need to discover what those small things are. In many cases only 2 - 5% of you web site visitors are converted into customers. What is special or different about those people, compared to the other 95 - 98%?

Are they using certain keywords to find your site?

Are they coming from specific links on other web sites?

Or did they follow a link in an email?

Are they located in a specific part of the world?

What path do they take when they arrive on your site?

Conversion Gold 2 helps answer these questions and more. When you learn the answers, then you can start taking action to focus on the things that are leading to conversions. You may focus your SEO and PPC effort higher converting keywords. You may try to attract more links from other sites, ones that are similar to those that convert well. If you have an affiliate program, you may reach out to your top-converting affiliates.

Have you ever wondered if the headline, layout, text or graphics on your web site are doing a good job? Could your landing page or salesletter convert better with a few changes? Very often, a few small changes can double your sales. Conversion Gold 2 is extremely powerful as you test different versions of your pages. See how the conversion rate changes when you alter your headline, change/remove your header graphic, add testimonials, use longer/shorter pages, different graphics, and more. By systematically testing and tracking each element of your page, you can turn a good sales page into a great sales page, and make much more money as a result.

How Conversion Gold 2 Works

First, you simply copy and paste a small piece of code on all of your web pages (as many domains as you want). The paste some special code on conversion "thank you" pages, the pages where your visitors go after they have converted. (Don't worry, this is easy, and you don't need to upload any files, don't need PHP, and don't need to setup any databases -- just cut-and-paste!).

Now Conversion Gold 2 will start collecting information about the web visitors who arrive at your site, including:

IP address

Country, State, and City

Web page where they came from

Search engine they used to find your site

Search keywords they used, if any

Page they landed on ("entry page")

Other pages they viewed on your site.

In addition, you can also specify a "campaign" and "tags" to each visitor. These are very powerful, as they help you to filter and compare conversion data. For example, if you are testing two versions of a sales page, your might assign a "version1" campaign to the first version and a "version2" campaign to the second version. This makes it easy to compare the conversion rates for the version1 and version2 campaigns.

Here is an example of the "Visitor Profile" screen in Conversion Gold 2:

This gives you a complete picture of the visitor. You can see where they live, how they found your site(s), and which pages they have viewed. The other thing the visitor profile tells you is details of any conversions for the visitor. Now you can see what a converted visitor looks like. In some ways, it helps to put yourself into their shoes, stepping through the process of finding the site and then converting into a customer or subscriber, etc.

In addition to tracking traffic statistics, Conversion Gold will also record conversions when someone signs up for your mailing list, buys a products, fills out a lead form, etc. You define the conversion and you can even assign a value representing your revenue or profit from that conversion. Conversion Gold 2 even provides several custom fields that can be used to tracking additional details about each conversion. All conversions will show up on the Conversions report and also appear on the Visitor Profile screen, as shown above. Optionally, Conversion Gold will even send you an email when a conversion occurs, with a link to the visitor's profile.

Reports that can Boost your Earnings

Of course, the real power of Conversion Gold lies in the ability to summarize and filter the conversion data in various ways. For example, you could go to the "Keywords" screen to break down the data by search engine keyword. This shows you the traffic and conversion data on a per-keyword basis -- you can quickly see which keywords have the highest conversion rates. You may notice that some of your high traffic keywords don't convert very well, while some of your lower traffic keywords convert extremely well. You can use this information with both your PPC and SEO efforts, focusing on top converting keywords. This can dramatically boost profits. Knowing which keywords lead to conversions also helps you understand your visitors better. And when you know what they are looking for, you can tweak things to meet their needs, which means more money for you.

In addition to viewing conversions broken down by keyword, you can do the same across several other powerful metrics:

Referrer (broken down by the external web page where visitors entered your site)

Country

State / Province

City

Search Engine

Page (broken down by unique unique web page on your site -- which pages get the most traffic, and which convert the best?)

Date

Hour of Day

Campaigns

Tags

By breaking down the traffic and conversion data in each of these ways, you can learn an incredible amount about your web site visitors. It will open a window on what types of people convert into customers or subscribers. And once you know that, then you can start to focus your efforts in those areas. Small changes can lead to big increasing in conversion rates and earnings. Using the Campaign and Tag screens to see your conversion data at a glance and compare test version of sales pages or advertising copy.

Drill-down for even more detailed information

One of the powerful features of Conversion Gold is that you can track conversions from unlimited web sites, within a single, centralized reporting interface. This can save you a ton of time, as all your data is in one place. It also shows you how some visitors jump from one of your sites to another. And within each site, you may have many different areas, campaigns, tags, etc. You might have one site that sells pet products and another than sells clothing (or one site that sells both). In such cases, you may want to look at one area at time, and Conversion Gold has a drill-down feature that enables you to do this. For example, you can "drill-down" by selecting a single domain name or campaign. This filters the reports so that they *only* show data from that domain or campaign. Suppose you only want to look at the traffic and conversions for your "petfood" campaign. Just click on the petfood campaign and it turns on the campaign filter for petfood. Then view the Keywords report to view only the pet food keywords and conversions. Later, remove the filter and repeat for the 'clothing' campaign. This filtering capability is essential for those us with multiple sites on multiple topics. And being able to track all of them from a single central reporting interface saves you time, so you can spend more time tweaking your sites to boost your conversions and earnings.

Using Conversion Gold on a $7 Secrets Site

This article explains step-by-step how to use Conversion Gold on a site powered by Jonathan Leger's $7 Secrets Scripts. (Note: if you haven't yet purchased $7 Secrets, click here to learn more. Amazingly powerful report and script, costing you only $7).

Note: If you are interested in more general setup instructions, that can be used for any type of site, try this article.

Three Types of Conversions

Conversion Gold 2 is works very well for sites selling information products using the $7 Scripts. To maximize the power of the $7 Secrets system, you will have 3 conversion goals. A conversion goal is a specific action that you want visitors to take. The three conversion goals are:

Buy $7 Product - The first thing you want visitors to do is to buy the $7 product

Opt-in to Email List - After buying the product, visitors get sent to the squeeze page, where they can opt-in to your email list. List building is a major goal of the $7 Secrets system.

Buy One-Time-Offer (OTO) Product - Finally, you want the visitor to purchase your one-time (or back-end) offer product.

Of course, its great when you can get a single visitors to take all 3 actions above, but that does always happen. Conversion Gold will help you track each of the above conversion goals, as well as information about where each visitor came from (referring site, referring affiliate, country, state, city, keywords used, etc.)

Setting Up Conversion Gold

Now we will go through the steps to setup Conversion Gold for your $7 Secrets site.

Step 1 - Get Tracking Code

After logging in to Conversion Gold, click the "Get Tracking Code" menu link. You should see something like this:

There are fields for "Campaign" and "Tags", both are optional:

Campaign - You can enter the name of a campaign to track visitors by. For example, if you are creating separate landing pages for various traffic sources (ads, adwords, etc.) or testing different versions of you landing pages, you can use different campaigns to compare performance and conversions.

Tags - Tags are similar to campaigns. You may want to group several campaigns under a single tag. For example, you could use the tag 'ebooks' for each of your ebook campaigns, yet still use many different campaigns for each book or landing page.

For now, leave both of these blank, and simply hit the "Get Tracking Code" button.

After clicking the "Get Tracking Code" button, the tracking code will be displayed in a text box, similar to the one below:

Now you can copy and paste that code into your salesletter.html template. You can place the code anywhere between the <body> and </body> tags. I recommend placing it directly before the </body> tag.

Advanced Tip: This technique is optional, but powerful. If you want to track traffic conversions based on affiliate, you can do so using Conversion Gold. To do this we want to set the 'tag' variable to the affiliates PayPal email address. Look in your tracking code for section that looks like &tag=. Change that to &tag=<?=$_REQUEST['aff'] ?>. This will dynamically assign the affiliate PP email as a tag. You can then view the Tags report to see how traffic and conversions break down by affiliate. This enables you to quickly spot the best affiliates, and you can email them to offer support, thanks, etc.

Step 2 - Get Conversion Tracking Code

After copying and pasting the Tracking Code, you should click the "Step 2 - Get Conversion Page Code" link. (Note: since you want to track three types of conversions, you will want to repeat step 2 three times.)

Conversion Tracking Code is code that you should place only on the conversion "thank you" page(s). The "thank you" page is the page that visitors land on after they have converted (submitted a lead, purchased a product, etc.) Thank You pages should only be accessible to those visitors who have just converted.

You should now see a screen like:

There are seven fields for conversion tracking code, but "Description" is the most important.

Type - The type of conversion you would like to track. You can choose anything you want but some examples are lead, opt-in, sign-up, or sale. (Optional)

Description - Short description for this conversion. This should be unique to the specific product or action. Example: Car Washing Report Sale.

Value - The dollar value for this conversion, if applicable. For example, if the conversion is for a product sale in which you earn $7, enter 7 for the dollar value. (Optional)

Custom1, Custom2, Custom3 - These are optional custom fields that you may want to use to store additonal information about the conversion. You may want to leave it blank for now and then dynamically insert a value later, such as a customer id or transaction number.

Email Notification - If you check this box, you will receive an email notification every time a conversion occurs.

For the "Buy $7 Product" conversion goal, you may use the name of the product as the description (ie. "My Report") and enter "sale" as the type. For the value, enter 7.00 (no dollar sign) if you are selling it for $7, or enter the sale price if different.

For the "Opt-in to Email List" conversion goal, you can use something like "My List Subscription" and enter "opt-in" as the type. For the value, enter 0.00, since you don't earn any money when somebody subscribes to your mailing list (that part comes later!).

For the "Buy One-Time-Offer (OTO) Product" conversion goal, you may use the name of the OTO product as the description (ie. "My Report Resale Rights") and enter "sale" as the type. For the value, enter enter the sale price of the OTO.

Now click the "Get Conversion Tracking Code" button, and you will be taken to a page that with the conversion code, such as:

Copy and paste the code into your conversion "thank you" pages, between the <body and </body> tags.

For $7 Scripts sites, place the each of the conversion codes as follows:

download.html - Here you can place both the "Buy $7 Product" and "Opt-in to Email List", since people arriving at this page have purchased the report and opted-in via the squeeze page. (Alternatively, if you want to track opt-in only after they have confirmed their email address, you can put the opt-in code on the page the subscriber lands on after confirming. This may be configurable via you autoresponder service or program).

downloadoto.html - On this template you can place all three conversion code blocks, one after the other. After someone has purchased the OTO, it means they have already purchased the main product and opted in to your list, AND purchased the OTO.

Step 3 - Check your Reports

After you have placed both the Tracking Code and Conversion Tracking Code on your templates, you are all set up and ready to track visitors and conversions. Now you can login to your account and view your reports.

Note: if you have multiple $7 Secrets sites, repeat the steps above for each of them. One of the powerful features of Conversion Gold is that you can track visitors and conversions across multiple sites from the same control panel and reporting interface. This helps you quickly spot your top performing sites, products, and affiliates -- and it even shows you when visitors jump from one of your sites to another!
